About Plastic Fabrication
At Plas-Tech Fabrications, we work with customers of all shapes and sizes. If you’re new to custom plastic fabrication, we’d be happy to guide you through the process. We’ve also provided some definitions below that you might find helpful.
CNC Machining. CNC is an acronym for computer numerically controlled. It refers to automated machine tools that are run with pre-programmed software. In the world of custom plastic fabrication, CNC machining is popularly used for detailed routing and cutting of plastics and to cut and bend plastics into unique shapes – for example, jigs, tooling fixtures, etc.
Vacuum forming (also known as vacuforming), is a type of thermoforming process. The sheet of plastic is heated so that it can be shaped by stretching and pressing it over a mold. A vacuum is then applied to form the plastic sheet tightly over the plastic mold. Some of the plastics that we vacuform at Plas-Tech Fabrications include polystyrene sheeting, Kydex, ABS and others. This is a popular plastic fabrication process to manufacture aircraft interiors, louvers, molding, light lenses and other products.
Plastic Welding is a plastic fabrication process by which two pieces of plastic are joined together using heat. At Plas-Tech fabrications, we can weld plastics in the form of sheet, rod and tubing using hot air and extrusion welders.
Custom fabrication of plastics is our specialty at Plas-Tech Fabrications. Simply put, custom plastic fabrication means that we can take a customer’s unique design for an item in plastic, work with them to select the best plastics material for the job, then fabricate a prototype and bring the item to full-volume production. We specialize in complex and high-quality custom plastic fabrication.
Cut to size. Using one of a variety of plastic cutting processes including CNC machining and table saw, we are able to cut plastic sheet, nylon, rod and tubing to size for our customers.
